I manufacture a skate brake system consisting of a special skate frame and and leverage assist device called the GatorLeash. This product helps improve the stopping power of inline speed skates with minimal impact on skating performance.

The leash allows you to apply a large amount of leverage on the brake pad despite the low cut nature of speed skating boots. Using the leash provides a secure stabilization of the skater’s body and as such enhances control and brake modulations to the point that one footed stops are generally not difficult to obtain. The one footed stop is a bit showy but it does illustrate that most of the skate’s weight is on the brake pad for optimal stopping force.

In addition to the leash, I also make a special skate frame with integrated skate brake and low cost high performance skate brake pad. The integration of the brake system into the skate frame makes the system much stronger and lighter then bolt on alternatives.  It is also easy to rotate wheels and change the brake pad with the integrated system.
